The Ductless Air Conditioner Technology

Air conditioners with ducts such as central air conditioning units require a lot of labour and higher electrical bills. With a ductless air conditioner, we can get away with those. What is its technology?

A ductless air conditioner is also termed as a mini-split system because it has two main components: an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. The unit located indoors is usually set on the upper portion of a wall. Since it is found indoors, it is the one responsible for bringing cool air to the room. On the other hand, the second unit is situated on the outside of the house or building.

The system does not require ductwork because it is designed to have a pre-connection. Between the indoor and outdoor units is a brace of two refrigerant lines. The first line delivers the electricity to the split system while the other takes away the liquid formed in an air conditioning process called condensate. Moreover, the ductless air conditioner also has a quiet blower and a thermostat. It is also equipped with an LCD wireless remote control for easier operation of the system.

What are the benefits from ductless air conditioners?

Compared to a window type unit, it is advantageously small in size thus, allowing flexibility for zoning or heating and cooling individual rooms. And when seasons change, a ductless air system does not need to be moved in and out of the window. This assures you of security from thieves who are wise enough to use open windows to break in. Furthermore, an unblocked window allows you to view what nature provides outside (which are typically blocked by window air conditioners).

Its thermostat keeps the room at a constant, comfortable temperature as compared with other units that gust on and off. And since its compressor is outside the building, you cannot hear compressor-operating noise from indoors.

Moreover, using a ductless air conditioner helps you to be practical. The system helps you save money. You do not need to buy ducts or pipes; you do not need to pay for someone to install it. Its inbuilt combination of pre-connected indoor air handler and outdoor condenser makes it really efficient and very simple, fast, and easy to install. You just need to cut at least a two-inch diameter hole on the upper wall and you are ready to connect the two ductless components.

Ductless air conditioning systems are also very good in your interior design. With their small size, they are virtually invisible. You may artistically mount the air handlers into your drop ceiling or suspend it solely from the ceiling. You may hang it on a wall or just let it stand on the floor. Wherever you place it, it is easy for you to operate with its remote control.

You can save greatly on ductless units because every room has its own thermostat, which means that the room is only air conditioned when someone is there. Unlike systems with ductwork, these ductless mini-splits help avoid energy loss. Energy loss related to ductwork of centrally forced air systems has been found to account for more than 30% of energy consumption.
