Split ductless air conditioning
One of the contemporary climate controllers is the split ductless air conditioning system. The system is also called mini-split system because of its two major parts: the first is an indoor air handling unit set on the upper portion of an inside wall, which delivers cool air into the room, and the second is the condensing unit mounted on the outside of the house or building. These two units are connected by a couple of refrigerant lines: the first one delivers the electricity while the other takes away condensed water. The remote controller is sometimes regarded as the system’s third main component.
Advantages of split ductless air conditioning
As quietly as it operates, the climate controller has long been a quiet answer to cooling and heating problems in the world. The air conditioning system has a variable quiet blower, a thermostatic control, and a LCD wireless remote control that operates the units, especially if they are mounted high and discreetly. Also, the system does not have a vibrating forced air furnace.
It does not need a window space or ductwork. The indoor unit is sleek and discreetly placed on walls while an outdoor component is slim and just requires a small space. This feature eliminates security concerns which are posed by large window type air conditioners.
It gives better interior design options as compared to other add-on systems. The units come in different configurations: a compact indoor unit that performs with very minimal noise as it is mounted high up on the wall, a model of the overhead type that gives off great airflow as it is suspended against the ceiling, floor-standing models, and a cassette-type overhead unit that gives adjustable four-way airflow and that can be barely seen in the ceiling. With these, you have a variety to choose from.
The air conditioner combination includes the zoning benefits of a usual single air conditioner room unit that is installed through a wall, and the potential cooling of entire house of central systems. It’s a smart way to condition the place – it does not need any wall openings for duct installations. It is a simple installation that just requires mounting the indoor and outdoor units, connecting the refrigerant lines, and making a few electrical connections.
Ductless split-system air-conditioners save energy because only the occupied rooms are to be cooled. It has a thermostat that autonomously controls each zone. It further saves energy because it does not cause duct related energy loss. Therefore, operating costs are often lower than those of central systems that cool every room, whether it is in use or not.
Some split ductless air conditioning units operate as heat pumps and coolers, providing both summer cooling and winter heating.
Disadvantage of split ductless air conditioning
The main problem with split ductless is its cost; it is more expensive than portable air conditioners or window air conditioners, but cheaper than central systems. The unit may cost about $1,500-$2,000 per ton of cooling capacity or about 30% more than central systems.
