Solar-Powered AC: The Past and the Present

The need to use the sun as the main source of energy has been longed for by many innovators for so many years now; so much now that their inventions has become nearly paradoxical. What else could you call a certain gadget like the solar-powered AC? It is a device that can cool down the heat produced by solar energy surrounding the planet Earth, while working greatly to absorb this energy. The more surprising thing is conceivably the fact that the idea of making living spaces cooler with this type of energy is anything but something new.

The Romans used a solar-powered AC:

It is surprising to learn that at the peak of their civilization, the Romans used the natural structure of ventilation or air conditioning. They dug a 100-yard trench that went along a straight line away from the home. A chimney and a pipe were fitted into and over the 100-yard trench to make the heated air inside the chimney rise; drawing the air through the cooled pipe. The underground pipe cooled the air to the earth’s temperature; thereby allowing the cool air to circulate through the living space to keep the temperature much lower than the temperature outside.

The modern solar-powered AC:

Upon Japan’s development of the Direct Absorption (DFA) technology in the 1960s, the sola cooling or air conditioning technology took off. In 204, an American customer was provided by the BROAD Air Conditioning Co. Ltd with the very first solar-powered AC. Its performance was exceptionally good. Today, it is already possible to cool down sun-generated heat through battery-powered AC using a battery charged by solar energy. The battery is charged using solar modules during the day, particularly when the sun is at its peak, allowing the solar-powered AC to be used at anytime of the day.

Nowadays, more and more companies are creating their own energy efficient solar-powered AC. These air conditioners make use of less than 50% of the power requirement of an air conditioning input system. They are effective cooling devices for cottages, small houses, telecommunication cabinets, industrial buildings, etc. Many of these air conditioning units may also be used to cool even a very large structure. Since these air conditioning units operate on low voltage batteries such as 24/48 DC, they are very good for replacing or serving as an alternative to expensive external generators. These air conditioning units are also available in the market as wall-mounted devices.

The advantages of using solar-powered AC:

The solar-powered AC uses has lesser power requirement and provides better and cleaner cooling. It is possible to use these units anywhere in the world simply because they do not depend on frequency to operate. The only requirement there is to keep them running is the solar power.
The invention of solar-powered AC is perhaps the best in the cooling industry. These devices are not only environment-friendly, they also keep us cool and comfortable on a very hot day, and this matters most to all of us!
