Avoiding Expensive Auto Air Conditioning Repair
For most car owners, finding a broken air conditioning unit is very annoying and requires an expensive auto air conditioning repair. A lot of mechanics and drivers agree that it is way cheaper to have the old one fixed rather than buying a brand new air conditioner. To prevent having these troubles and to save money on costly auto air conditioning repairs, your car needs constant checking. Check your air conditioner at least once every week, along with the other parts of the machine.
If you are having some problems with your auto air conditioner at the moment, do not go directly to the mechanic. It might be something you can fix by yourself using simple tools found in your auto tool box.
No air coming out
An auto air conditioner that is not giving out any air is the most commonly encountered problem in auto air conditioning units. Often many people directly consult an auto air conditioning repair man. What they do not know is that these can be self-fixed. There are some things you would want to check when no air is produced by your auto air conditioning unit.
First, make sure the AC fuse is working. If not, change it. It is less expensive than paying for a repair or buying a whole new air conditioner. Second, check the air conditioner fan resistor and low-pressure switch. If defective, replace with new ones. Lastly, check the air conditioner wiring. Most often, this is the part drivers miss to check. Inspect for loose connections or broken wiring. If necessary, do necessary repair or better yet, replace the relay. A slight damage in the wiring system may affect the air conditioning relay in the air conditioners electrical circuit.
Warm air
Another annoying problem with auto air conditioners is when they blow warm air instead of cool air. You definitely would not want a warm air conditioner in your car’s system. To avoid unnecessarily paying for expensive auto air conditioning repairs, do an initial check of your air conditioning system.
More often, this problem occurs when an air conditioning clutch is not properly attached. Inspect the wiring of the compressor clutch, its electrical vents and most of all, the compressor clutch. If one of these parts is not properly working, repair or replace them if needed.
Water collection
Sometimes after the auto air conditioner is used, you will observe water accumulating on the interior floor. This can bring additional hassle, more cleaning and it could damage your car. To avoid this, check the drain hose of the evaporator which may be disconnected. It must be properly secured to the drainage located just beneath the dashboard.
If the hose is secured to the evaporator drainage but there is still some collection of water, detach the hose and assess patency. Sometimes, the drain hose may be blocked so that water particles may condense around the drainage tray and/or evaporator. If this happens, your air conditioner may emit a foul odour. The drain hose must be cleared in the passenger compartment. Either of these will answer for the accumulation of water on the interior floor of your car.
